We are Matt Madden and Kim Vallis, the creative team behind MaddenVallis Photography. We are a wedding photography company based in Halifax, NS, but cover weddings all over Nova Scotia.

We started ​Madden Vallis Photography in 2010 as an outlet for our love of photojournalism - capturing those real moments between loved ones. We've since had the opportunity to work with many amazing couples, getting to know them and their loved ones while documenting their special day. Our favourite moment is sharing the final gallery of images and hearing how special each photo was. 


Our goal is to make the photos fun and allow you to enjoy the day while we capture all the memories. We prefer creating images that capture the real essence of our couples. Clients often tell us how much their guests enjoyed our company and how easy we made it.


We love being wedding photographers and look at each wedding as a way of creating a custom art piece that we can cherish just as much as our couples do.

How does coverage work on our wedding day?

Our time starts when we arrive to the first location. The length of our coverage is dependant on the package you choose; hours are used consecutively and can’t be broken up through out the day.


How many photos do you typically shoot?

It really depends, typically it falls between 3000-7000 images. We sift through all the photos and only highlight the best moments. In most cases, you can expect anywhere from 350 to 700 photos of your day.


When do we get the photos?

We provide a sneak peek gallery (approximately 10-15 images) within a week. Final delivery of the online gallery is up to 6 weeks after the wedding.


Do you do destination weddings?

We love to travel and take every opportunity to travel for work or for pleasure. We will travel as far as you need us to. Costs for overnight stays, air travel and so on, can be worked out once we have a better understanding of you wedding. If you have a destination in mind, let's have a chat and work it out.


What equipment do you use?

We use numerous Professional Canon full frame Digital Cameras ( 2 5d mark 3 and a 5d Mark 2, L- series Lenses (24-70mm - f2.8, 70-200mm - f2.8, 35mm - F1.4, 50mm - f1.2, 85 mm - 1.2  and Canon Flashes, Alien Bee Strobes.


What happens if we need to cancel?

Unfortunately some couples have to postpone or cancel their wedding day. These things happen.We keep the deposit placed on the wedding and open that date up to bookings again.

What's your style?

We would best describe our style as “romantic and candid”.  We shoot clean compositions, use of beautiful light and love capturing those real moments and deep connections.  We help you enjoy the photo process while looking beautiful doing it. We take a journalistic approach to our work, capturing all of those genuine interactions and beautiful memories. However, we hope you barely remember seeing us and your guests rave about our personality.


What are your prices and packages?

Our packages start at $2500. We work with all of our couples to figure out what is important in terms of photo coverage for their day and how we can best make use of our time. Visit our contact page to send us a message to fond out more.


We are not used to having our picture taken, what should we expect?

This is the most common question we get. We totally get you! We understand how stressful it can feel stepping in front of the lens. You re in a vulnerable state, leaving a stranger to tell your story. We know that feeling and go out of our way to make the shoot fun, more of an entertaining activity than a chore. Through a little suggestive posing advice and simple tips we help keep you relaxed and focused on what really matters. Our couples always walk a way from the shoot telling us how much fun they had.


How will the images be delivered and how can I use the high-resolution photographs?

The high-resolution photographs are delivered through an online gallery which is password protected. From here you can download the high-resolution files, print high quality prints and canvasses, send photos to your friends and family, share them on Facebook or use them in any other way you can think of.

How do we book you?

Let’s start off with a chat. Fill out our contact form and let us know a bit about your day. We always like to meet our clients for a chat to discuss their requirements and learn about their day. This is a good way for me to get to know you and you to know me as well. In order to secure your wedding date, you will need to sign a wedding contract form and pay a non refundable 15% booking fee. The booking fee is deducted from your total and used to reserve our time for the day.
